In a new appearance on Real Madrid’s official channel, Kylian Mbappé reflected on his regrets. Speaking candidly, the 26-year-old forward revealed that 2022 left a very bad taste in his mouth.
After a few days off to relax at the end of the year, Real Madrid players have returned to work. This Monday, David Alaba and his teammates resumed training to prepare for the rescheduled 12th round La Liga match against Valencia, which will take place next Friday at the Santiago Bernabéu. While Carlo Ancelotti made an intriguing statement about his future, the players spoke to the official channel of the Blancos. Once again expressing his satisfaction at having joined Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé made a remark that hasn’t gone down well in France, especially at PSG.
Mbappé’s new provocation for Parisians

With little regard for the feelings of his former club, where he spent seven years, Kylian Mbappé stated that he did not enjoy the sporting year of 2022 at all. Explaining the main reason behind his mixed feelings, the France captain didn’t hold back: “2022? I didn’t like that year much because I was playing at PSG (laughs). On top of that, I had to play against Real Madrid!” This statement is a tough pill to swallow for Parisians, who were celebrating at the time for managing to retain their star player despite rumours linking him to Real Madrid.
It’s fair to say that KM9 doesn’t hold entirely fond memories of his time at the French capital’s club. While the first five years were a love story, the last two were far from rosy. Mbappé felt held hostage by the club’s management, who offered him colossal sums of money and subjected him to political pressures to stay in Ligue 1. To finally realise his dream of playing for Florentino Pérez’s team, he had to take drastic measures to escape the grip of Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and sign with Real Madrid last June.
“The fans were incredible with me”

Nevertheless, Mbappé prepared well to make a strong impression at Real Madrid. In his interview with the club’s official channel, he spoke about one of the surprises he had in store for fans who welcomed him like a prince, despite lingering feelings of betrayal from 2022 when he didn’t make the move.
“The day I was unveiled as a Real Madrid player, the fans were incredible with me because they understood that I was trying to speak Spanish.“
Thanks to this linguistic effort, KM9 quickly integrated into his new club. After significant challenges at the start of the season, the Bondy-born star has shown much more confidence in recent weeks. In fact, he has scored in each of his last four games. Across the six matches since the Liverpool debacle, where he missed a crucial penalty, the former PSG player has registered five goals and two assists.
Here’s hoping his form continues into the new year. According to Marca, the French forward has promised trophies for Madridistas in 2025.
