After the 3-0 victory against Mallorca in the semi-final of the 2025 Spanish Super Cup, all Madrid fans are bowing to just one player: it’s neither Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, nor Jude Bellingham.
We’ll have a repeat of the 2024 Spanish Super Cup final between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. After their 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday night, the Catalans awaited the winner of the other semi-final between Real and Mallorca on Thursday. In a one-sided match, Carlo Ancelotti’s team did not miss their chance. While the first half ended goalless, things changed in the second half with a poacher’s goal from Jude Bellingham. Before this decisive goal, young Raúl Asensio replaced Aurélien Tchouaméni in the 55th minute, after the latter left the pitch following a heavy head collision.
The flawless match from young Asensio

Just minutes after coming on, the 21-year-old centre-back made a strong impression. Unstoppable on the few rare attacks from Mallorca’s forwards, Raúl Asensio helped secure the lead. In 35 minutes, the defender completed 24 out of 25 passes, achieving a 96% success rate. He also succeeded with all three of his attempted long passes, a 100% success rate. Defensively, Asensio was untouchable. He made two crucial interceptions, two tackles to eliminate threats, and won both of his duels.
To cap off his masterclass performance, Raúl Asensio earned the love of Madrid fans by confronting Mallorca defender Maffeo, who had made scandalous remarks about Vinícius Júnior a few days earlier. Speaking in a podcast, the Barcelona-born player, who clearly does not appreciate the Madrid winger, claimed he could knock him out in just ten seconds in a boxing match. On the pitch this Thursday, Maffeo wasted no time drawing attention with blatant dives that outraged the Madrid players.
Asensio’s fierce character in defence of Vini

As Rodrygo Goes netted the third goal for Real Madrid against the modest Mallorca side, Raúl Asensio lashed out at Maffeo, who was about to be substituted: “Get out, leave quickly, you’re terrible, you’re terrible,” the young defender shouted. Already humiliated by the scoreline, Mallorca’s players vented their frustration by rushing towards Asensio, who, like a true defender, kept his cool and faced them, as Jude Bellingham and the rest of the Madrid squad stepped in to intervene.
On social media, Raúl’s gesture and his display of strong character have earned widespread admiration from Madrid fans, even if Carlo Ancelotti downplayed its significance. While the goals from Rodrygo, Bellingham, and others can be praised, it is the young Spanish defender who is on everyone’s lips after Real Madrid’s victory in the semi-final of the 2025 Spanish Super Cup.
