Leila Pereira, the president of Palmeiras, the Brazilian club that developed young Endrick, has shared some important insights about Real Madrid. In an interview with The Athletic, the sports director offered valuable advice to her former player, who is struggling for playing time at Madrid.
Signed for just under €50 million, Endrick has had a slow start to his journey at Real Madrid. Stifled by strong competition in attack, the 18-year-old forward has played only a few minutes. Since his arrival in the Spanish capital, the former Palmeiras player has played just 318 minutes. Despite a few flashes of brilliance, including his recent brace in the Copa del Rey, he still doesn’t feature prominently in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans. Despite calls for a loan move to gain playing time, Endrick does not want to leave. This situation does not surprise Leila Pereira.
Patience and hard work required for Endrick
Formerly the boss of the Brazilian international at Palmeiras, Leila confirmed in her interview with The Athletic that the player is determined to succeed at his new club. Referring to her recent meeting with Florentino Pérez, the president of Palmeiras revealed that the discussions about Endrick never revolved around a departure.
Vehemently rejecting the idea of a return for her former player, even on loan, Leila Pereira stated that this option would not be beneficial for the player or either of the clubs. “We never talked about Endrick returning because the adaptation period at the new club and in Europe was expected. He will be very happy at Real Madrid, I have no doubt about that… A young talent, but it’s difficult for a child to leave Brazil and adapt immediately. He will be patient because he is very determined and focused. He will shine a lot at Real Madrid,” she said.
Will Endrick shine at Real?
Despite his limited playing time, Endrick maintains a strong reputation with Florentino Pérez. According to the Palmeiras official, the Real Madrid president wanted confirmation regarding the comparison some have made between the 18-year-old and the legendary Pelé. “I met Florentino Pérez at the Bernabéu, and he told me it was a pleasure to meet. He also asked me: ‘Leila, I’ve been told that Endrick is better than Pelé.’ I told him: ‘Calm down, President, no one was born like Pelé.’”
Today, it must be said, the young Madrid forward remains one of the fan favourites. With every appearance, he gives his all to make an impact. And when the opportunity arises, Endrick never misses the chance. With his powerful shots and true number 9 qualities, he can truly make a name for himself in the coming months. Much like Arda Güler, who had a quiet first year, the former Palmeiras player will get more playing time in the months ahead.
