As the winter transfer window approaches rapidly, revelations about Real Madrid’s plans are emerging. While much is being said about Davies and Alexander-Arnold, the name of Virgil Van Dijk is being mentioned on the Madrid side. Marca has reported the announcement made by the club’s management regarding the Dutch defender.
In a few days, several operations will begin in the winter transfer market. As is typical mid-season, clubs in poor form will try to strengthen their squads, while those facing financial difficulties will look to offload some players. At Real Madrid, the team’s excellent performances in recent weeks have led the management to refrain from lifting a finger to sign any player. Instead, Florentino Pérez and his collaborators are focused on the summer market in June, with the aim of signing one or more free players, particularly Alphonso Davies and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The latest revelations about Madrid’s plans

As in recent years, Florentino Pérez is unwilling to spend vast amounts on transfer fees for clubs. Instead, he prefers to offer signing bonuses and secure talents to strengthen the squad. The Merengues are quietly working behind the scenes to finalise deals as early as January, using pre-contract agreements for the end of the season. Following the Kylian Mbappé strategy, the leaders of the White House are moving steadily and calmly. In recent hours, the trend suggests that Trent Alexander-Arnold will sign an initial contract at the start of the year to join the Madrid side.
While Alphonso Davies’ case remains somewhat unclear, Carlo Ancelotti’s club does not intend to wait too long. Amid speculation about a potential reinforcement next season, the name of the towering Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk is echoing in Madrid as a target for the management to bolster the defence, especially as a replacement for David Alaba, who is set to return early next year under uncertain circumstances. However, Real Madrid has quickly put an end to the rumours linking them to Liverpool’s captain.
Van Dijk: It’s a no!

According to the Madrid daily Marca, the White House executives have categorically dismissed this idea and the speculations surrounding the veteran Reds defender. Although he is nearing the end of his contract with Liverpool, making him a potential departure candidate at the end of the season if no renewal occurs, Virgil Van Dijk is not part of Real Madrid’s plans. At 33 years old, the Dutch defender no longer meets the conditions to make the move to Valdebebas.
With updates on players like Raúl Asensio and Joan Martinez, who has already resumed training after suffering a cruciate ligament rupture earlier this season, Madrid are not in a rush to sign an ageing central defender. For now, Antonio Rüdiger is performing very well alongside his teammates. The real focus of Madrid’s transfer market remains the recruitment of full-backs or a midfielder to fill the gap left by Luka Modric’s imminent departure.
It’s clear: Van Dijk will not be joining Madrid, even though he remains one of the best central defenders in the world today.
