After making a strong start to the summer transfer window, Real Madrid have now shifted their focus to trimming the squad in order to give José Mourinho the group he wants for the new season.
Having already strengthened the team with the arrivals of Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella, Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konaté, while also finalising Yan Diomandé’s move and keeping Rodri as their priority midfield target, Los Blancos are now concentrating on a less glamorous but equally important task. According to Marca, the club’s strategy is clear: no more signings will be completed unless players leave first. The objective is not only to balance the finances but also to build a squad that perfectly matches Mourinho’s tactical vision.
Several players have seen their status decline within the squad, while others could be sold or loaned out to continue their development elsewhere. The most advanced departure concerns Raúl Asencio, who has attracted interest from Marseille. Despite spending his summer working hard to convince Mourinho after a difficult 2025-26 campaign, the Spanish defender is now considered the leading candidate to leave. The Portuguese coach reportedly wants another centre-back, making Asencio’s chances of regular football even slimmer. Real Madrid therefore believe his exit would help facilitate the defensive restructuring planned for this summer.
Eduardo Camavinga‘s future is also attracting attention. Although the French midfielder remains highly valued across Europe, particularly in the Premier League with clubs such as Manchester United monitoring his situation, a transfer would not be straightforward. Camavinga is under contract until 2029, Mourinho would prefer to keep him, and Madrid have no intention of accepting an offer below their valuation.
However, after an inconsistent season disrupted by injuries and reduced playing time, the Frenchman is no longer viewed as completely untouchable. Marca reports that a major sale involving Camavinga could provide the financial flexibility needed to secure the midfielder Mourinho considers essential.

The attacking department presents a different scenario. Gonzalo Garcia had been widely expected to leave this summer and was reportedly close to joining Álvaro Arbeloa at Fulham. Mourinho’s assessment has completely changed that outlook. The Portuguese manager believes Garcia offers qualities no other striker in the squad possesses, including physical presence, relentless pressing, aerial dominance and the ability to provide a different attacking profile from Kylian Mbappé. As a result, Garcia’s position has been significantly strengthened ahead of the new campaign.
Garcia’s rise directly affects Endrick‘s future. Once again, the Brazilian teenager faces fierce competition for playing time. If the situation remains unchanged during pre-season, another loan move has become a realistic option following his spell at Lyon earlier in 2026.
