As tensions are at an all-time high surrounding Spanish refereeing, Javier Tebas, the head of LaLiga and a Madrileño, has once again taken aim at Florentino Pérez. In a new media intervention on Monday, the sports executive accuses the president of Real Madrid of tarnishing the club’s image with his methods.
For months, Real Madrid has been engaged in a tough standoff with the referees. After gross errors from Spanish officials, who for seasons have fostered tensions in every league campaign, Florentino Pérez decided to do everything he could to change things. Believing that the Negreira case, which is cornering Barça, has certainly contributed to the deterioration of the quality of refereeing, the president of the White House is taking actions behind the scenes. While fighting for the success of his club, Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, refuses to accept his methods.
New revelations from Tebas about Real Madrid

A fellow Madrileño, Tebas has continued to make media appearances, constantly calling Florentino Pérez to order. After an intervention last weekend where he claimed to have evidence to condemn FC Barcelona in the referee corruption case, the LaLiga president once again appeared on Monday to lament the actions of Real Madrid. Without mincing his words, the controversial lawyer accuses the Madrid club’s actions and complaints of being acts of whining.
“For them, it’s as if there is a great Spanish conspiracy, where everyone is against Real Madrid, against their projects. They don’t just review the errors against Madrid, they ask for reviews when playing against Celta de Vigo, they review when they play against Rayo, Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid… it’s an obsession, then they whine. They’re trying to create a story that isn’t true,” stated Javier Tebas at an event organised by Europa Press.
“I’m starting to be ashamed”

Not stopping there, the head of the Spanish championship governing body accuses Florentino Pérez of cowardice for refusing, during a meeting at the Assembly, to have the refereeing model reviewed. “Real Madrid wasn’t with the majority of clubs, they were navigating, looking for a solution. For me, it’s whining because if they win, it’s because they’ve made efforts and fought against the forces of good and evil, and if they lose, it’s because there was a referee conspiracy against Real Madrid,” says the LaLiga president.
Today, due to the accusations and the image that Real Madrid is projecting, Javier Tebas says he is disappointed to be a Madrileño. For him, the Munuera case, which caused a stir for a few days, is the result of Florentino Pérez’s conspiratorial manoeuvres. “I, who have children and grandchildren who are fans of Real, am starting to be ashamed of what I am experiencing as a Madridista. It was never a club of whiners, and now… When Florentino Pérez called the elections, the issue of changing the ownership model of Real Madrid began to be discussed, and very quickly, we stopped hearing about it. Now, all we talk about is Munuera, the handball, and trivial things.”
In any case, it’s clear that the legitimate demands of Madrid’s executives after the refereeing injustices suffered in the league are causing a stir. Today, several people want the pressure on referees to stop, despite the blatant mistakes that occur in the league. In the Champions League, however, Pérez and his collaborators do not complain about the refereeing when the team loses or has a bad match. Perhaps Spanish referees should also do better to avoid controversies every week.
